On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi, New Acropolis Marseille organised a conference that investigated Wisdom from the Indian tradition. Speaker Brigitte Boudon first presented Hindu philosophy through the Vedas, Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. This was followed by an exploration of select teachings from Buddhist, Jain and Sikh traditions. The third and final session was devoted to Gandhi and his principles, accompanied by teachings from past figures such as Ramakrishna, Vivekananda and Tagore. Through Gandhi’s book Hind Swaraj, Brigitte Boudon presented Gandhi’s philosophy, and highlighted concepts of non-violence and emancipation, both individual and collective. This was followed by a debate where questions relating to the need to apply his principles of non-violence, freedom and the relentless search for truth in every action and choice in our times today, was deliberated upon.
